My Life So Far

It is in freeing others, that thou are freed
In teaching others, that thou will learn
In helping others, that thou will be helped
In loving others, that thou will be loved
Because I have learnt that
The things we worry about the most are the simplest
The things we fear the most are the easiest
The things we treasure the most are the most common
The ones we love the most, go away

I have learnt that time waits for no one
That money is important, but not everything
That happiness can't be bought
That when you genuinely love someone,
you lose.

Yet, I continue to desire
I continue to worry
I continue to love
I continue to live....

Flash Back

When you told me to hold on
I laughed at the irony
You may have meant only the phone
But I had held on to the memories from the past 3 years

When you said that some people say
That everything happens for a reason
I almost said out loud
I never found out why you and me didn't

When you said that you felt like a punching bag
I knew even then, that you didn't know
That if you were hers
I was yours

When you got back together
I realized for the millionth time
That I was still yours
Even if you were never mine.

Bigger Than Me

You might forget your language
But when you are in need- you only pray to the God of your religion
You might not even watch the results
But you vote for your country's candidate
You might have never gotten along with your teachers
But to an outsider, you always defend your school
You might have left your city
But another place doesn't qualify as home
You might have a broken heart
But you don't stop wishing for a fairytale

Some things just are
Somethings don't come under a category
Some things can't be justified
Some things are bigger than us.

For My Emancipation

I don't know if I would sacrifice my life for you
'Cause I know that it matters not
You would never ask me to do so
For you've never seen me like I've seen you forever

I don't know if I would ever love another
But I know that it matters not
For your heart wouldn't bleed like mine does
When I see you both together

I don't know if we will ever meet again
But I know that it matters not
For you would never recognize me
As the one who loved you most

But I hope we meet again
Meet as friends, for we might never be lovers
In my heart, I know that that would be enough
Because for me, you matter most.

Chak De! India

Before I begin my actual point let me just say that while I'm an avid movie buff, I don't actually see a lot of movies(certainly not one every Friday), I watch movies only that i think may be exceptional or movies that everybody harps about and pushes me to watch.
Which brings me to the reason I watched Chak De so late after it's release.
I finally did watch it yesterday, and what a movie it was!! We clapped at EVERY goal, uttered some expletives at the enemy team and screamed with delight every time we won.
OH MY GOD! It was totally amazing and soo real despite most of the girls being first timers. The movie wasn't specifically about Shahrukh Khan, and not even about the much hyped Mir Ranjan. It was about Hockey by girls in a nation obsessed with cricket and producing boys.
It was about overcoming obstacles and going all out, about declaring war, about going against the odds. It was about showing some male chauvinists what a team of "docile" girls can do.
It was about swallowing your pride for the country and playing as ONE.

I could still write more about the movie but I'm only going to say that Anyone who hasn't seen it should get up- right Now and catch the next show.

Dream Or Reality

Sometimes when even the lowest volume echoes
Sometimes when I feel the rain coming down
Sometimes when I roll over and clutch the empty air
Sometimes when even after trying- the tears don't stop
Sometimes when even after crying there's pain left
Sometimes when I see people with the ones they love
Sometimes on days like this

I'm reminded that I'm not invincible
I'm reminded of the hurt I didn't let go
I'm reminded of the time we spent together
I'm reminded of YOU

Watching you walk away wasn't easy
Hearing you say you don't love me wasn't either
But I wonder if you saw the tears in my eyes
Or the love behind them
I wonder if we're apart, because of something that I did
Or the things that you didn't
I wonder if you think of me still
Or whether you ever did.

Letting You Go

You always said if you love something, set it free
If it loves you, it will come back
I set you free without you even realising it
I cut my throat the same day I helped you and her

I don't know if that worked out
But I know it hurt a lot
I know it took a lot of courage to tell her about your love
That love was supposed to be for me
Only it wasn't
I told the world, You were a joke
A desperate attempt
A bad hangover
And only I knew you weren't, aren't and maybe never will be

I know that I've always loved you
And at this moment feels like I always will

I let you go, maybe you never were mine...

All those late night calls
When you spoke about her, felt like I had tasted poison
Like someone stabbed me in the back
Felt like salt on open wound
But I know it wasn't your fault
My unspoken love for you is hard to hide....
but not impossible
Unlike the never ending pain I go through.

Take A Look Around

The new Superpower they say we might be
But WHY this concept?
And on which lines their assessment runs- I fail to understand

Maybe they haven't seen the destitute
that run amok every traffic signal
Maybe they haven't seen the corruption
that prevents the common man from taking a legal step
Maybe they haven't seen the divide- amongst the rich and the poor
that seems to grow every day
Maybe they haven't seen the dirt
that infiltrates the slums
that causes so many diseases
that ruins the public hygiene
Maybe they haven't noticed the derogatory ratio of boys to girls-
It's hard to notice in this population of 1.1 billion
Maybe they haven't noticed the lack of public facilities
Maybe they haven't noticed the fall of government services-
because they only use private facilities
And most probably they won't notice this silent appeal
to help improve the conditions
because their assessment is only limited,
LIMITED to those who have enough money but NO heart.

*this poem is about my country India and how it needs only a little momentum in the right direction away from self-centred bureaucrats.

I Tried With All My Strength

When I asked you, whether it was true
You told me it was
That day was the toughest
I cries but I survived

When you asked me whether i would help
I said I would
That day was the scariest
I hurt but I survived

When she told me it was true
I told you the same
That day was the happiest
But it wasn't meant to last

When she returned, back to you
I felt wronged
That day was the longest
I was confused, but I survived

When she finally said no
I was torn between her and you
That day was the hardest
I juggled and I survived

But now I'm scarred again
Scared she might feel the same way again
Scared you might never let someone love you
Scared to lose two priceless friends
Scared I might never be able to move on.
